The accurate and timely reporting of public record information is a critical piece of the credit reporting industry. Public record information may be used by both local and national companies to make timely, informed, and intelligent credit risk decisions. The absence or presence of a judgment, tax lien, or bankruptcy on an individual’s credit file is used as an indicator of their credit worthiness and may subsequently impact the decision to extend or deny applications for credit. Obtaining accurate, timely, and complete public record information can provide a number of advantages to the general public, including: Helping to keep the community’s overall cost of goods and services down by reducing the amount of loss incurred due to bad debt. Helping to keep Federal, State, County, and Municipal taxes down because of improved recoveries of governmental debts such as tax liens, court costs, and fees. As an Independent Contractor, you will be under contract to collect public records from courthouses within a designated territory. Territories can vary in size from one court to multiple courts in several different counties. Depending on the territory, the time invested can vary significantly. Some contractors work 1 day a week while others work 5 days a week. The public record data you will collect can include, but is not limited to, federal and state tax liens, tax lien releases, civil judgments, evictions, and satisfactions. As an Independent Contractor you will visit the courthouses within your designated territory and review and enter public records into a laptop computer provided by LexisNexis Risk and Information Analytics Group Inc. The information is then transmitted to the LexisNexis Risk and Information Analytics Group Inc. database via modem. As an Independent Contractor, you will be under contract to collect public records on a regular basis from each court within your territory. Each court has an assigned visit frequency, which is the number of times per year you will be obligated to visit and collect records in that court. Court frequencies are based primarily on the number of records filed in the court. Typically, courts in the more highly populated counties will require more frequent visits, as there will be a greater number of records filed and subsequently a greater number of records to collect. As an Independent Contractor, you may also be contracted to research certain Consumer Disputes. Consumer Dispute are a request for verification of a public record item. As an Independent Contractor, you will go to the court the disputed record originated in and research the accuracy of the record. Information obtained from that research is then submitted back to the LexisNexis Risk and Information Anayltics Group Inc. database. LexisNexis Risk and Information Analytics Group Inc. provides each contractor with comprehensive public record certification. The certification process includes complete instruction on the specific type of public record information to collect and how to collect it, as well as proper procedure for collecting this information in the courts. As part of the certification process, a quality review of the records you collect will be conducted to insure that your contributions meet industry standards. Because you would be an Independent Contractor, and not an employee of LexisNexis Risk and Information Anayltics Group Inc., you will enjoy the freedom and flexibility of being your own boss and setting your own schedule in meeting your contractual obligations. While your contract with LexisNexis Risk and Information Analytics Group Inc. will outline the expectations and desired results for your designated territory, you will maintain ultimate control over the manner in which records are collected. As an Independent Contractor, you will not be eligible for group insurance, workers’ compensation, disability insurance, LexisNexis Risk and Information Analytics Group Inc. retirement or investment plans, or unemployment compensation through LexisNexis Risk and Information Analytics Group Inc. You will also be responsible for managing your own income taxes.
